Leaving us a legacy
Our long history of practical help for clergy and their families is one that you could help us to maintain. Whatever support that during your lifetime you may be able to give us to continue this vital work will, of course, be most gratefully received and put to very good use. However there is a wonderful way of helping in the longer term and this is by writing a legacy to us into your Will. A legacy is a very simple way of helping your favourite cause and can provide a lasting memorial of a loved one or, indeed, of your own intent and actions. What is more, it can cost you absolutely nothing, if done when you are making or updating a Will. The difference that a legacy can make is huge. By writing a gift into your Will to assist clergy in need through the Sons of the Clergy or the Friends of the Clergy, you will be ensuring that those who spend their lives helping others receive financial support when they need it most. Your gift will be free of UK inheritance tax, which may make life easier for your executors. You or your solicitor may find the following wording of assistance: For a legacy to the Sons of the Clergy: "I give [here insert details of legacy] absolutely and free of all tax to the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy, 1 Dean Trench Street, London SW1P 3HB, Registered Charity number 207736, and I direct that the receipt of the Registrar for the time being or other duly authorised officer shall be sufficient discharge to my executors." For a legacy to the Friends of the Clergy: "I give [here insert details of legacy] absolutely and free of all tax to the Friends of the Clergy Corporation, 1 Dean Trench Street, London SW1P 3HB, Registered Charity number 264724, and I direct that the receipt of the Secretary for the time being or other duly authorised officer shall be sufficient discharge to my executors." Please do contact us if you would like more information or help about adding a legacy for us to your Will. You should also consult a solicitor if you are contemplating a new Will or making changes to an existing one. So please, when you do next update your Will, consider a legacy to one or both of these important, life-enhancing charities. For those in need it could be one of the most important decisions you ever make.
